Construction of a New Lee High School

Building Features Spaces for Core Subjects, Magnet Programs, Athletics
Huntsville Board of Education leaders have approved the initial plans for a new Lee High School facility, which will be built facing Meridian Street at Quietdale Drive, bordering the current Lee campus. The $42.5 million project is currently projected to be completed by Fall 2011. Scroll down for pictures and a description of school plans.
Features:
* A 250,000 square foot school designed for 1,200 students
* A 1,000 seat auditorium suitable for featuring Magnet activities and community events
* Ample green space on the campus
* A 500-seat cafeteria and 50 classrooms, with separate areas for core subjects like science and math
* Three distinct wings -- core subjects, magnet programs, and athletics
* Classrooms and labs for Lee's pre-engineering and robotics courses
* Spaces designed for creative writing, music, dance, and drama
* Studios and labs for the visual arts program
* New main gym and ROTC classrooms
* Practice gym from the current campus; additional ball fields with support facilities
* Pedestrian bridge and safety fences near railroad tracks

Features of the Two-Story Core Subjects Wing
* A 500-seat cafeteria
* A large library with multimedia capabilities and a Computer Lab
* Administrative and guidance counselors' offices
* 50 classrooms, with separate areas for English, Foreign Language, Social Studies, Math, Science, Business, and Special Education
Features of the Magnet Wing
* A 1,000-seat theater, with capabilities to show magnet performances and host local events
* Separate classrooms for orchestra, band, dance, drama, vocal music, rehearsal spaces, and small group / ensemble practice rooms
* Engineering classroom, laboratory, and robotics shop
* Creative writing, editing, photography / darkroom, video editing, art studios, and art gallery
* Updated dressing room, storage, and bathroom facilities
Features of the Athletic Wing
* A new arena-sized gym to host sporting events
* An auxiliary gym for school activities
* New weight rooms, locker rooms, and bathroom facilities
* ROTC, Health, and Driver's Education classrooms
* Pedestrian bridge to practice fields
